Coastal Carolina to Unveil New Indoor Practice Facility by Spring 2025

Conway, South Carolina – Coastal Carolina University is set to welcome a state-of-the-art indoor practice facility in spring 2025, a significant step forward for the university’s athletic programs. The facility, located near Brooks Stadium, aims to serve multiple functions beyond merely housing the football team.

Not Just for Football

Chance Miller, who took on the role of athletic director in June 2024, explained that the facility will be a versatile space for various teams and activities. “I think a lot of times people just hear that it is a football indoor training facility, but it is more than that,” Miller remarked during an interview. He noted that bad weather often hampers training for numerous sports, and this new facility will provide a solution.

“Whether it be for training purposes or practice, our different sports teams, such as lacrosse and soccer, will have the opportunity to utilize this space when conditions outside are not favorable,” Miller added.

A Community Resource

The benefits of the new facility extend beyond athletics. Miller indicated that the university plans to host various events within its walls. “We’ve already been talking about how we can use it for donor events and recognition events moving forward,” he stated. Furthermore, the facility will open its doors to the community, showcasing Coastal Carolina’s commitment to engaging with local residents.

Backing by Generous Donors

The $20 million project has garnered support primarily from donors, including Conway Medical Center with Novant Health and Joe Moglia, a former CCU coach. Miller acknowledged the importance of community backing, saying, “To have donors and businesses from the community be able to step up and help us build something to that level… it just shows the type of donors and businesses we have that are committed to making Coastal Carolina better.”

Features of the Facility

The new practice space will feature an impressive array of amenities, including a regulation-sized football field with artificial teal turf, filming platforms, and athletic training rooms. These elements will contribute to elevating the athletic experience at Coastal Carolina, helping to attract more recruits and raise the profile of the university’s sports programs.

Miller, wrapping up his first semester at CCU, expressed enthusiasm for the future of Chanticleer athletics. “I couldn’t be more excited moving forward. We are surrounded by good people who want to go in the same direction. I think that is what I am really thankful for,” he said, highlighting the collaborative atmosphere within the leadership team.

The indoor practice facility represents just one aspect of a broader vision for Coastal Carolina’s athletics. Miller hinted at more developments on the horizon, stating, “We have some things on the horizon that we are really excited about, and you’re going to see those things start to roll out sooner rather than later.”
