The Chanticleers demonstrated their offensive prowess with early scoring, including a two-run home run and solid relief pitching. With this win, they improved their record to 2-0 and look forward to their next matchup against the College of Charleston. Fans can catch all the action on ESPN+ and the Chanticleer Sports Network.

Coastal Carolina Kicks Off Season with a Bang, Overpowers Kansas State 8-3

In the sunny city of Conway, S.C., baseball fans were treated to an exciting start to the season as the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers took on the Kansas State Wildcats on February 16, 2025. With high hopes and eager spirits, the Chanticleers did not disappoint, claiming a solid 8-3 victory at their home field, Springs Brooks Stadium.

A Strong Start Sets the Tone

The game got off to a thrilling start, with Coastal Carolina lighting up the scoreboard early in the first inning. They wasted no time, as the team registered three quick runs, putting the pressure right back on the Wildcats. The momentum shifted dramatically when Domenico Tozzi smashed a two-run double that had fans roaring with excitement. Not only did this quick scoring barrage energize the home crowd, but it set the tone for the rest of the game.

Chanticleers Keep the Pressure On

After the explosive first inning, Coastal Carolina didn’t let up. In the fourth inning, they found their groove again, scoring another three runs that included a spectacular two-run home run by Sebastian Alexander. The outfielders were left in awe as the ball soared over the fence, further extending the lead to 6-2.

As if that wasn’t enough to secure their dominance, the Chanticleers added an insurance run in the seventh. Smoothly playing through the game, Dean Mihos shined once again, singling home Blegen Pado, who had reached base due to an error. This run put Coastal Carolina firmly in control with a commanding 7-2 lead.

Wildcats Struggle to Keep Up

Relief Pitching Shines

The Wildcats’ frustration deepened, especially with the four errors that sprinkled throughout their defense. JJ Slack took a tough loss on the mound, allowing four runs (three earned) on just three hits in 1 1/3 innings pitched. Meanwhile, the Chanticleers found solace in their relief pitching, with Cameron Flukey stepping up to allow only two unearned runs over 4 1/3 innings while striking out three batters.

Relieving Flukey, Dominick Carbone showcased remarkable poise, fanning two batters and entering the game with the bases loaded, emerging virtually unscathed. Carbone joined forces with Darin Horn, Ryan Lynch, and Andrew Bowers to round out an impressive 4 2/3 innings of one-run relief pitching.

What’s Next for the Chanticleers?

2-0, Coastal Carolina is gearing up for their next matchup, scheduled for February 18, 2025, at 3 p.m. ET against the College of Charleston. Fans can catch all the upcoming action streamed live on ESPN+ and the Chanticleer Sports Network. It’s looking like an electrifying season ahead for the Chanticleers, and we can’t wait to see what they will bring to the diamond next!
