One Facebook post recently made the rounds, highlighting the long delays some drivers faced when trying to navigate S.C. 31, Robert Edge Parkway, and other nearby roads, with complaints of being gridlocked for hours! However, there is good news for holiday revelers.
Traffic Management Efforts
According to North Myrtle Beach’s Public Information Officer, Lauren Jessie, the city has not encountered significant traffic issues so far. The local police are rolling up their sleeves to assist with traffic flow during the light show, ensuring that everything runs smoothly.
“I take my family to see Santa and the light show every year,” Jessie shared. “Usually, most drive-thru visitors can expect to wait around 45 minutes.” She recommends packing a snack for the ride. “It makes waiting in line a little bit easier!” And if you want to avoid the holiday rush entirely, Jessie has a tip for you: visiting earlier in the week can help dodge those pesky crowds.
“As we get closer to Christmas and Santa’s Village is likely open every night, traffic could increase,” Jessie noted. “But with our dedicated officers on duty, they’re working to keep things moving along.”
Details of the Light Show
For those eager to bask in this candy-cane-colored spectacle, mark your calendars! The drive-thru experience runs until December 30, and it’s only closed on Christmas Day. Operating hours are from 5:30 PM to 9:30 PM. Santa’s Village, where families can meet the big guy himself, opens its doors from Thursday to Sunday until December 15 and goes nightly starting December 19.
This year, the light show is getting even a sprinkle of creativity with two brand-new experiences: one featuring beloved Christmas movies and another focusing on enchanting trees. Families will also love the maze with a slide and other games that make the event a full-on festive extravaganza.
As Jessie cheerfully puts it, “We might not have snow in North Myrtle Beach, but Christmas at the beach is the next best thing!” Just one note for those planning to drive in: no golf carts are allowed during the light show, and tickets can only be purchased at the entrance gate.
