In the thriving community of Carolina Forest, there’s a reason to celebrate this October! Meet Brittany Roloff, an enthusiastic and dedicated fifth-grade teacher at Carolina Forest Elementary School, who has just been named the Window World Teacher of the Month! With her infectious energy and unwavering commitment to her students, Roloff is making waves in the world of education.
Originally hailing from New Jersey, Brittany made the move to the Grand Strand when she was just in the eighth grade. She quickly fell in love with the area, attending Ocean Bay Middle School before graduating from Carolina Forest High School. Her love for teaching blossomed further when she attended Coastal Carolina University, where she recently graduated in 2024 with a degree in elementary education.
“I teach ELA, math, social studies, science, writing, and grammar. Anything there is, I’m teaching it!” Roloff shared with a bright smile. Currently, she manages a classroom full of 24 energetic fifth graders, and if you think that’s easy, think again! But Roloff handles it all with grace and enthusiasm.
In a twist of fate, while completing her studies at CCU, Roloff stumbled upon substitute teaching. At first, a fifth-grade position wasn’t on her radar. However, after completing her internship under the guidance of the inspiring Brittany Hines, everything changed. “I fell in love with it. My view totally changed,” she said, recalling the experience that ignited her passion for the age group.
Brimming with excitement, Roloff realized that education was her true calling and decided to apply for a teaching position at Carolina Forest Elementary. “Last year was amazing for me. Brittany Hines is my role model,” she mentioned, attributing her success to her mentor.
If you ask Roloff about her favorite subject to teach, she’ll tell you math is where her heart lies. “I love math. I’m very much a math girl,” she exclaimed. She relishes the opportunity to watch her students experience those magical “a-ha” moments, especially when they tackle units on fractions. Recently, her fifth graders have been diving into lessons on independent, dependent, and controlled variables in science—not to mention their upcoming field trip to WonderWorks to put their learning to the test!
For Roloff, being a teacher goes far beyond just delivering lessons. Her absolute favorite part of her job? Building relationships with her students. “It’s really interesting to see their little personalities blossom,” she said with warmth in her voice. She credits her amazing principal and supportive faculty for making her teaching experience even better. “I have a really great group of people at my school. I love the people I work with,” she added.
When she isn’t molding young minds in the classroom, Brittany enjoys spending quality time with her family and friends. “I’m very close with my family,” she said, revealing her strong values. Plus, she’s a huge fan of the New Jersey Devils and loves catching hockey games whenever she can.
If there’s a standout teacher in Horry County who you think deserves some recognition, don’t keep it to yourself!
