What a thrilling day in Indianapolis! Fans were on the edge of their seats as they watched rookie sensation Caitlin Clark make history on Sunday. Clark led the Indiana Fever to a nail-biting 110-109 victory over the Dallas Wings, and in the process, she shattered the WNBA single-season rookie point record.
With an impressive career-high of 35 points in the game, Clark climbed to a dazzling 761 points for the season, surpassing the legendary Seimone Augustus, who held the previous record of 744 points from her rookie year back in 2006. Talk about making a statement!
But the excitement didn’t stop there. The game itself was packed with action and excitement! It all came down to the final moments when the Wings managed to pull within two points as the clock ticked down. Fever center Aliyah Boston proved to be the hero, sinking two pressure-packed free throws with just a second left, which really sealed the deal for Indiana. Although Dallas forward Satou Sabally launched a buzzer-beater three-pointer, it just wasn’t enough to steal the win.
Not only did Clark shine with her scoring prowess, but she also contributed significantly in other areas. In addition to those 35 points, she added three rebounds, eight assists, and three steals to her impressive stat line. Her shooting was on fire, knocking down six three-pointers—just one short of her personal best.
Right alongside Clark was teammate Kelsey Mitchell, who put up 27 points of her own. Meanwhile, both Sabally and Arike Ogunbowale matched Mitchell’s score for Dallas, also finishing their night with 27 points. It was truly a high-scoring game that had everyone hyped up!
Caitlin Clark didn’t just stop at this single record-breaking game; she has been a force throughout the entire season. Just last month, she broke rookie records for assists and three-pointers. Adding to her impressive roster of achievements, she also recently claimed the WNBA single-season assist record.
And let’s not forget her incredible single-game feat of 19 assists that she knocked out of the park back in July, also against the Wings. It’s safe to say this 22-year-old guard is rewriting the history books while making it look effortless.
The Fever have had quite the transformation this season, snapping an eight-year postseason drought and returning to the playoffs for the first time since 2016. With this latest victory, Indiana has clinched their 20th win of the season and secured the sixth seed for the playoffs. The energy in Indianapolis is positively electric as fans gear up for what’s to come!
As the WNBA season continues, all eyes will undoubtedly be on Caitlin Clark and her incredible journey. The records she’s breaking and the history she’s making are exciting for fans and players alike. Here’s to more thrilling games ahead!
