Salvador Jacinto, proprietor of E-Z Eats Cafe, noted that while his sales weren’t as high as the previous year, the holiday attracted a significant number of visitors, providing a pleasant change in pace. “It did go pretty well, but not as much as last year. It was a significant change in pace to what it’s been,” stated Jacinto.

Meanwhile, Julia Morovitz credited the Waves of Praise Festival at the Burroughs and Chapin Pavilion for the substantial boost in clientele. “The gospel festival has really helped a lot,” shared Morovitz. For restaurant owners like Jacinto, the event marked a speedy influx of patrons. Labor Day weekend started strong for his business as foot traffic became non-stop from Friday.

Room for Improvement

Despite the surge in customers for many businesses along the boardwalk, some believe their performance fell short. This feeling particularly resonated with Wacky T’s Manager, David Angarita. “It was better than previous weekends, but still low for us,” he revealed. Indeed, the occupancy statistics for short-term rental lodgings and hotels still indicated a 3.4% decline from the previous year.

The Labor Day weekend showed signs of improvement for some businesses at Myrtle Beach’s boardwalk, especially in comparison to the slowdown earlier in the summer.
