Big news for golf lovers! After sitting quietly for a whopping 16 years, the Beacon Hill golf course is making a grand comeback. Located west of Leesburg, Virginia, this historic 27-hole course, crafted by the legendary Johnny Miller, first opened its doors in 2006, serving as a centerpiece for a vibrant community that once thrived on a beautiful 326-acre farm once owned by broadcasting icon Arthur Godfrey. Now, with excitement in the air, work is underway to transform the course into something special.
When it’s all said and done, the golf course will feature an amazing 18 holes that will not only challenge golfers but also treat them to scenic views of the majestic Blue Ridge Mountains. With significant elevation changes and around seven miles of cart paths, players will really feel like they’re on a golf adventure! Plus, water features will add that extra charm to the playing experience.
The project is being spearheaded by Resort Development Partners (RDP), with a talented team of architects and builders, including Tom Clark, Jim Cervone, and McDonald & Sons, Inc. This group is focused on making sure the revitalized course meets the needs and desires of today’s golfers.
Leading the charge in this ambitious restoration, RDP’s managing partner is overseeing every detail of the project. They kicked things off by tackling the overgrown areas of the course and removing many trees that had taken root during the closure. Thanks to the dedication of the Beacon Hill Homeowners Association, the property was well-maintained over the years, as they kept the greens and fairways in great shape, preserving the course for this revitalization. Their care has really paid off, as they managed the property to standards 🌟 even better than the municipalities!
The vision for the course doesn’t just stop at the stunning holes. Plans are also in place for a par-3 short course, along with a practice facility and an inviting clubhouse, making it a destination for golfers of all skill levels.
One of the exciting changes in the course’s redesign is focused on accessibility. In past designs, the course was often considered a challenging venue favored by accomplished players. This new approach aims to allow the average golfer to feel comfortable and confident tackling the fairways. Input from PGA tour pro Michael Brennan has also been incredibly valuable, ensuring the layout will be enjoyable for everyone.
As work continues on what to expect on each hole, the team is feverishly preparing for a grand reopening set for September.
