Back-to-school Event Eases Financial Burden for Parents

CONWAY, S.C. – Parents in Conway, South Carolina, breathed a sigh of relief as a back-to-school event was organized on Saturday at Conway Elementary. The purpose of this event was to help children prepare for the upcoming school year, easing the burden of back-to-school expenses for families. This event was brought to you by HERE News Network.

Packs of Joy for Over 500 Kids

South Carolina’s First Choice health plan, under Select Health, played a pivotal role in hosting this annual event. A whopping 500 backpacks filled with school supplies were distributed among the attendees. Over the last 15 years, First Choice has been committed to such back-to-school events and has successfully dispatched over 30,000 backpacks across South Carolina.

“Any of our members in the community who are looking to get some back-to-school supplies know that the burden is a lot right now. The expense of going back to school can be daunting. So, we’re here today to try to ease this burden,” shared Michelle Ehret, the First Choice Director for Community Outreach and Communication.

Unity in Community

As if the free backpacks and supplies weren’t enough, this event brought the community together in an impressive show of mutual support. First Choice formed partnerships with several local organizations to ensure the success of the event, including Conway Medical Center and SC Thrive.

Additionally, students from HGTC were present in the location, offering free haircuts to the children attending the event. The overall atmosphere of the event was buzzing with excitement and generously laced with a sense of community cooperation and mutual support.

Concluding Thoughts

The back-to-school event at Conway Elementary sheds light on the power of communal collaboration. With expenses for school supplies often being a heavy financial load on families, this event showed how a concerted effort by local organizations and community members can bring about significant change.

Not only did the event attempt to ease the financial burden facing the parents but also created an avenue for community interaction and participation. The satisfaction visible on the faces of parents and the joy apparent in the excited chatter of the kids serves as a hopeful reminder of the difference that empathy and cooperation can make in our communities.
