New Art Exhibit to Light Up Atlantic Beach

Atlantic Beach Prepares for A Brand-New Art Exhibition

Art enthusiasts in Atlantic Beach have a cause for celebration as preparations are underway for a groundbreaking new art exhibit. The fun is set to launch just in time for the long-anticipated Memorial Day weekend.

The forthcoming exhibition, known as the The Skillern Family Collection, will proudly present an exciting array of 30 works of art, all of which have been curated from artists who have served time in the military and share connections with South Carolina.

A Labor of Love

The pioneers behind this fresh endeavor are none other than the retired Army veterans, Eliot and Carmelia Skillern. The idea to open a museum in Atlantic Beach was born amidst the sands of Iraq, where they served together.

“It was during my service when I stumbled upon an article about African American masters,” Elliot recalled. “That served as the catalyst leading to further exploration and, consequently, the birth of this visually appealing and culturally significant exhibit.”

Atlantic Beach’s newest artistic attraction will be located at 401 Atlantic Street, and doors will open to the public at 10 a.m. this Friday. Enthusiasts can access the exhibit for a reasonable fee of $8.

Unlocking Military Artistry

The Skillern Family Collection thrusts a spotlight on a niche area of artistry, highlighting contributions by artists who have a military background. The distinct cultural and stylistic imprints of these often under-represented artists will now have a dedicated platform for showcasing.

This exhibition not only provides an avenue for the wider community to appreciate a new genre of art but also brings to focus a rather unexplored dimension of our society’s veterans.

Bringing the Community Together

Memorial Day is already considered a time for remembrance and reflection. By coupling the memorial observances with the arts, Atlantic Beach’s new exhibit promises to engage the community in a most meaningful and relevant way.

The event not only promises to foster an appreciation of art and history but also looks forward to igniting a conversation about the intersection of military service, personal expression, and artistic production.

As preparations across Atlantic Beach speed towards the grand opening, expectant art lovers are hopeful this exhibit, rooted in the valorous hearts of veterans and their expressive art, will be a scintillating addition to the city’s cultural landscape.

Stay tuned in with this space for more updates on the Skillern Family Collection and the impact of its unique focus on veterans’ artistic contributions. Ensure you check back frequently, so you don’t miss any exclusives on this groundbreaking event.
