Myrtle Beach Celebrates the Arrival of Coastal High School with Groundbreaking Ceremony Set for December 7

Myrtle Beach Welcomes Coastal High School

Exciting news is on the horizon for the residents of Myrtle Beach! Carolina Forest is getting a new charter high school, and it’s going to be called Coastal High School. That’s right, just under 110 acres off River Oaks Drive has been snagged for this fantastic new addition to our community, and we couldn’t be more thrilled!

A Bright New Beginning

Previously known as the Coastal Leadership Academy, this school is making a significant move from its spot on Palmetto Pointe Boulevard to a spacious area at the 2100 block of River Oaks Drive. Coastal High School is authorized by the Limestone Charter Association and is ready to embrace its new surroundings. The school’s principal, Sherri Oskin, expressed her enthusiasm about the move, stating, “The school is looking forward to its new location and the opportunity for growth that it will allow.”

Coastal High School aims to remain a cozy learning hub, with a capacity to accommodate 520 students from various attendance areas, keeping that small-school vibe that many parents cherish. Despite the large piece of land, most of it will stay untouched as conservation land, ensuring it maintains its natural beauty.

Learning from Nature

The exciting part? This school is all about incorporating the beauty of the outdoors into learning experiences! Principal Oskin shared, “With this location comes an immense opportunity to offer a unique educational experience for our students.” Coastal High School has big plans to weave the concept of outdoor education into every facet of learning.

Can you imagine learning about ecosystems while actually being in one? That’s the dream for students here! They’ll be teaming up with environmentalists and ecologists to help preserve local habitats and foster the development of native ecosystems. It’s all about creating hands-on, real-world experiences that will resonate with students long after they leave the classroom.

Beyond the Classroom

The school’s partnership with the North American Land Trust opens doors for even more rooted environmental education. This collaboration allows for programming that stretches way beyond your typical school year. The aim is to align with South Carolina’s science curriculum, and that means planning seasonal activities that will get students engaged and excited.

Imagine outdoor classrooms where students can explore habitats, wildlife, and even participate in activities like photography and sculpture that connect them with the environment. Guest speakers will also be part of the experience, discussing important topics like weather, climate, and conservation. How cool is that?

Coming Soon! Groundbreaking Ceremony

Mark your calendars, folks! The groundbreaking ceremony for Coastal High School is slated for December 7. This marks a huge step forward in bringing this amazing educational opportunity to our area.

If you’re interested in learning more about Coastal High School, or if you want to jump on the chance to enroll, make sure to keep an eye out for more updates as the plans unfold. This project is sure to create waves of excitement in Myrtle Beach and beyond!

Here’s to the bright future of education in our lovely community! 🌟
