North Myrtle Beach to Host the “What a Difference a Mile Makes” Walk

North Myrtle Beach, S.C. is gearing up for an exciting and meaningful event this Saturday! The North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club is all set to host the “What a Difference a Mile Makes” walk, marking the fourth year of this important Domestic Violence Awareness Walk. The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the beautiful North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex, and trust us, you won’t want to miss it!

This year’s walk is a cozy 1.1 miles around the lake—perfect for a little exercise and a lot of awareness. The registration fee is just $20, and every cent raised goes toward helping individuals transition from being victims to survivors. It’s a small price to pay for supporting such a great cause. Participants are encouraged to wear purple, the official color for domestic violence awareness, so get ready to shine!

Supporting Survivors with Heart

The Woman’s Club collaborates closely with local organizations such as the police department, the Rape Crisis Center, the Family Justice Center, and the Children’s Recovery Center to protect those who have faced domestic abuse. During the event, you’ll hear from Kim Allen, the chair of the Woman’s Club, who shared, “All the monies that we raise go to help these victims.” Whether it’s transitioning a family (and their beloved pets!) into a safe home or providing hotel accommodations, every dollar counts in making a difference.

Kim emphasized that domestic abuse can impact anyone—women, men, children, and yes, even our furry friends. That’s why this event aims not only to raise funds but also to raise awareness that everyone deserves to feel safe in their own home.

A Day Packed with Inspiration

Kicking off the day will be a keynote speaker who is a survivor of domestic abuse, sharing their powerful story of strength and resilience. We’ll also hear from Mayor Marilyn Hatley and State Sen. Greg Hembree, who will lend their voices to this noble cause.

But wait, there’s more! After the walk, attendees can kick back and enjoy some live music, check out a fun photo booth, browse through 20 arts and crafts vendors, and indulge in delicious food from local food trucks. Plus, the Girl Scouts will be providing water and treats for our four-legged friends, making this a family and pet-friendly event.

Empowerment Through Awareness

The Woman’s Club has been a beacon of hope for many survivors, and some have even gone on to become advocates for domestic violence awareness themselves. Kim remarked, “We have seen some triumphs from tragedy. We have people who’ve started their own foundations. To see them come out of their situation and thrive in life has been one of the greatest things to watch.”

As we come together for this event, remember that your participation does matter. Every step you take is not just a mile walked, but a step towards creating a community that stands united against domestic violence.

So, grab your friends, put on that purple attire, and let’s make a difference together on Saturday! Don’t forget to stop by the information tables to learn more about domestic violence resources and how you can lend a hand in this important cause.

Join us as we walk for those who can’t and show that together, we truly can make a difference!
