While the exact location remains under wraps, the confirmation has sent waves of excitement throughout our beach community.
A Long-Awaited Arrival
Can you believe it? For many, this announcement is a dream come true. Take Jennifer Internicola, for example. This New Jersey native has been driving two hours each way to shop at Trader Joe’s in Mount Pleasant and Wilmington, NC, for nearly a decade! “I’ve been asking for it for nine years,” she exclaimed. And she’s right to be excited; there are over 400 fellow fans who have joined the Facebook group called “We Need a Trader Joe’s in Myrtle Beach.” This group is filled with passionate locals advocating for their favorite grocery store, and it seems their voices have finally been heard!
Why Myrtle Beach? Why Now?
Many locals have been continually reaching out to the grocery chain, and it looks like their persistence has paid off. Currently, Trader Joe’s operates three stores in South Carolina, including one in Charleston that is soon opening its second location. They are known for being selective about their new spots, often favoring college towns. But hey, Myrtle Beach is a college town in spirit, right? After all, we’re a vibrant beach community bursting with visitors and locals who love unique food selections.

Allie Leigh, a former Massachusetts resident, shared, “None of the grocery stores around here are the same,” referring to her cherished favorites like soup dumplings and Elote corn chips.
Leigh used to enjoy care packages filled with her beloved Trader Joe’s goodies, thanks to a thoughtful friend. She’s eagerly counting down the days until she can stroll the aisles and stock up on her favorite products without driving hours to get there!

Jamie Gremillion, who made the move from Columbia, expressed similar sentiments. “I can’t make trips to the others (Wilmington and Mount Pleasant) because of a busy work and life schedule,” she said, echoing the struggles many face.
