Unexpected Flight Drama in Myrtle Beach
Hey Myrtle Beach! We’re here to share a wild story that unfolded right in our backyard on Tuesday. Imagine going about your day and suddenly hearing that an airplane door had fallen off mid-air! Sounds like a scene from an action movie, but it was all too real for one lucky neighborhood in the Market Common area.
The Emergency Unfolds
According to reports from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), a Diamond DA40 plane was having a bit of a rough day when it took off from Myrtle Beach International Airport at around 2:53 PM. Just a few minutes later, the pilot had to declare an emergency because, believe it or not, the plane’s door just plummeted right off!
A quick reaction saw the aircraft safely turn back and land back at the airport by 3:01 PM. Fortunately, the pilot and passenger aboard were unharmed, which is definitely a relief. Can you imagine the heart-pounding moment when they realized something wasn’t right? Yikes!
A Piece of Airplane in the Neighborhood
Wendy Hodges, a local resident, had quite the experience that afternoon. As she was leaving her home in Market Common, she was approached by a cyclist who exclaimed that they had seen an airplane part drop to the ground near Murray Avenue. Curious and perhaps a little concerned, Wendy dashed over to see what was happening.
When she arrived, she was taken aback to find the plane door resting peacefully in her neighbor’s yard, and it was all intact! “I came over to see what it was and I didn’t expect it to be all in one piece,” Wendy said, still stunned by the unexpected find. It’s not every day you discover airplane parts lying about, right?
A Lucky Escape
Wendy was happy that no one was hurt, nor was there any damage in the neighborhood. “It was definitely really lucky that there was no damage or no one was hurt,” she remarked. Now, she’s got her eyes on the sky a bit more often! “There’s a plane flying right now, and I will certainly make sure I start looking up,” she chuckled.
What Happened Next?
Not long after the incident, a crew from LIFT Academy, which operates the aircraft, arrived to retrieve the door and make sure everything was safe in the area. They assessed the situation thoroughly, and it seems like they handled it quite well!
As for us residents, we can breathe a bit easier knowing that things turned out okay in the end. Just another day in Myrtle Beach, right? Well, not quite like any other day!
